5. Question
Preventive Maintenance (PM) or Servicing Interval
An asset manager is trying to determine the optimal servicing interval for a control valve used in an energy utility company (who largely distributes gas to commercial and residential buildings). She doesn’t have a good understanding of the ‘dominant’ failure mechanisms that drives the failure of the control valve or the damage that is being accumulated during normal operation. She thinks that FTA could help her identify what the PM or servicing interval should be. She wants to make sure that these intervals aren’t so long that too many valves fail before they conduct PM or servicing. She also wants to make sure that these intervals aren’t too short, and there is too much PM or servicing being conducted.
What perspective should she adopt for her FTA (and why)?
