A set of data that has partially known information. For life or measurement data, left censored means we do not know when the item was placed into service or started in the test; interval censored means we do not know exactly when an item fails, for example, since the observations are done periodically; right censored means as of the last observation the item has not failed thus we do not know when it will fail.
