Either an action that is not intended or desired by the person or a failure on the part of the person to perform a prescribed action within specified limits of accuracy, sequence, or time that does not produce the expected result and has led or has the potential to lead to an unwanted consequence.

  • Two Approaches to Reliability
    There are two basic approaches when addressing product reliability: Reactive or Proactive. Neither is right or wrong.
  • F ratio
    A statistic representing the mathematical ratio of the between-group mean square error to the within-group mean square error for a set of data used to assess the probability of random occurrence at a selected level of confidence.
  • Extrinsic failure mechanism
    An error initiated failure that may have occurred during the design or assembly process or initiated by a defect within the fabrication or assembly materials.
  • Experimental error
    Variation in response or outcome of virtually identical test conditions. See also Residual Error.
  • Confidence interval
    A range of values, calculated from sample data, that includes, with a (100 - α) degree of certainty, the population parameter of interest. α, called the Level of Significance, is the probability of committing a Type I error.
  • Error of results
    The test or measurement results minus the true value (or the accepted reference value) and consists of the sum of random and systematic errors.
