What are ‘Cut Sets’?

What are ‘Cut Sets’?

What are ‘Cut Sets’?

podcast episode with speaker Chris Jackson

Reliability engineers are often taught about ‘cut sets.’ But we rarely use them. Many reliability engineers don’t know what they are. But they are also in lots of textbooks as if they are really important. So what are they? The good news is that they are pretty simple to understand. The bad news is that they can be difficult to find. Mercifully, they are mainly used by computers who do the hard work of calculating system reliability for us. So knowing what ‘cut sets’ are can be really informative … even if you don’t use them every day.

RM 165: Stencil Design and Manufacturing Best Practices with Elias Malfavon Jr.

RM 165: Stencil Design and Manufacturing Best Practices with Elias Malfavon Jr.

Stencil Design and Manufacturing Best Practices with Elias Malfavon Jr.

Today, we’re putting the spotlight on a critical component in surface mount technology, the stencil.
These precision-engineered tools are the unsung heroes of electronic assembly, playing a pivotal role in ensuring accurate solder paste deposition and, ultimately, the reliability of your circuit assemblies.

It’s been long said that reliability begins at the solder print, and the print begins with the stencil.

Joining us today is Elias Malfavon Jr, President of Metal Etch Services, Inc. a stencil manufacturer operating in San Marcos California. Metal edge services was founded 20 years ago in 2005.

We’ll explore the fascinating journey of stencil production, from design and material selection to the advanced laser cutting technologies that ensure microscopic precision.

We’ll also discuss the latest innovations in stencil technology, their impact on modern assembly processes, and how the industry is evolving to meet the challenges of ultra-high-density interconnects and miniaturization.

So, sit back, relax, and let’s uncover the critical role of SMT stencils in today’s electronics manufacturing landscape.

CR019: Better Predictive Maintenance and how CMMS plays a role with guest Cody Jackson of Effective PdM

Better Predictive Maintenance and how CMMS plays a role with guest Cody Jackson of Effective PdM

Thank you Cody Jackson, Founder of Effective PdM, for joining CMMSradio to discuss your IMPLEMENTATION Training programs teaching maintenance teams HOW TO EXECUTE predictive maintenance programs at their own facilities.

Cody is presenting at the Reliable Plant conference (From Training to Triumph: Empowering Maintenance Teams through Infrared Inspections) on August 3.  The conference takes place July 31 – August 3 in Orlando Florida.

When did your journey into the world of maintenance start and how did that lead to the founding Effective PdM?

You understand the way predictive maintenance actually gets done – What is it that holds in-house maintenance teams back from optimal performance?

Can you give us a brief synopsis of what people can expect from your session at Reliable Plant on August 3rd?

I would imagine you’ve dealt with CMMS platforms over the years – Where do you see the challenges when it comes to predictive maintenance vs preventive maintenance?

You’ve trained a lot of maintenance teams – Do you ever hear about CMMS being a disruption or benefit to how teams really work?

How can maintenance teams better utilize their CMMS platforms for predictive maintenance best practices?

Where should folks start if they want to move toward a PdM process?

BTW everyone – The TMCC Slack channel is back and you can connect with people like Cody Jackson and several maintenance and reliability experts.  It’s free to sign up.  Just go to upkeep.org/CMMSradio to register and join the conversation.

CMMS for Healthcare Systems – The FSI Journey Story with Guest Joe Serwinski President and Founder

This episode features Joe Serwinski, Founder and Presdent of FSI, discussing the journey to building a purpose-built CMMS for healthcare maintenance management.

A 35-year journey during which Joe launched Facility Survey in 2002 to help hospitals collect and load the right data into their CMMS platforms.  FSI was launched later based on a specific CMMS build out for a hospital system with 17 locations.  Other hospitals wanted to use the same platform, so they entered the market with one of the first SaaS based healthcare specific CMMS platforms.  Turns out it is CMS, rather than just CMMS, which stands for Cutom Maintenance Software with a mind towards including the flexibility needed to help varying types, and sizes, of hospitals.

  • The journey to creating FSI
  • Worrisome trends in CMMS and maintenance
  • Trends that are net positive (good) for the industry
  • The importance of standardization (ASHE, etc.)
  • Data for the next generation
  • The role of AI
