What’s Holding You Back?
Recently, I’ve been looking back over my career and trying to understand why so many companies struggle with their reliability programs. The processes, the technologies, the tools have all been around for a long time and yet we don’t succeed.
The reason we don’t succeed is poor leadership.
Here are 3 few common leadership gaps:
- Lack of Transparency – What is everyone working on? What constraints are we operating under? What’s our financial position? What are our priorities & goals? Does management have personal goals that we’re not aware of?
- Lack of Trust – Does your management trust that you know how to do your job? Do they trust that you’re executing it or do they micromanage you? Are they holding you to every metric possible?
- Culture of “Right Now Not Right” – Are you given the time to execute maintenance properly? Are you given the time to build your reliability program or are they demanding results now?
Why doesn’t your company succeed at reliability? I’ve put together this survey and I’d love any feedback about your leadership gaps. Everyone that fills it out will be entered in a draw to win a Zoom call with me so you can ask any of your reliability or leadership questions!
Last thing, I’m not throwing management under the bus. We are all leaders and we need to behave like the leaders we are. I talk about that more in this podcast, Personal Leadership & COVID-19.
