- What’s Your Goal? – Data doesn’t mean insight and having more data doesn’t mean that you can use it to add value to your business. What decisions are you trying to make with the data? What value do those decisions have to your organization? What quality/frequency does your data need to be in order to be effective for those decisions. These questions should be answered before embarking on an IIoT project.
- Don’t Forget Your SMEs – Data means you have the opportunity to turn it into actionable information. Your subject matter experts (SMEs) are the ones who can help. Involve them in your process and use them to point you in the right direction.
- What’s the ROI? – With any initiative, whether that be integrating your CMMS with PLC data or adding a fuel monitoring system to your haul trucks, ROI should be measured and wins should be tracked. Wins aren’t only financial but can also include safety, environmental, reputational or other benefits.
